I have been to many Shows but this really is the ultimate experience and my kids love it too, there is soo much to do. The evening entertainment was fab also. I missed it last year and this year but will be back next year. Not with my Discus as too young and want to get it right but I expect I may be in the Tropicals but will be supporting team UKDI all the way, of course.

nah i wont tell it like that lol

When i signed Me and Sue up for the 2009 show, i didnt really know what to expect. so we packed basically our house in a bag! from the toastie maker to plasters...... thankfully we only needed the toastie maker!

We headed off bright and early as mick said to get there so we can start working!!!! :mellow: oh ok...... haha. we got there before he did.... which was a major disadvantage as i dont know what mick looks like!!!! do you? so i was smiling and winking at any old bloke that came through the doors.... one did give me his number :unsure: ..... but thats a different story haha

the first thing i heard mick say to me was: are you Alex..... (yep) ....you put on weight you fat ******* :mellow: (oh ok)........ haha

so we went straight to the show tent and had a look around and started putting the tanks up and cleaning them. it took ages but well worth it in the end! ( regretably i have to admit, susans looked cleaner!) me sue and mick all that tuesday was putting up tanks and then cleaning them....... setting up the heaters, filters and lights then waiting for the R.o unit to produce water... which was a hell of alot faster than mine at home!!!!!! and then fill the tanks...... it took us 3 days to fill all the tanks..... tuesday to friday solid. the plug to the booster pump on the r.o unit was red hot......

we had a few minor hiccups, the power kept tripping because the demand was greater than the supply... there was more power demand in the show tents than the whole site usually has during the rest of the year!!!!

Francis brought his fish in at 8 o clock in the evening ( thursday) so me, mick and sue along with Francis and his wife Helen ( who had been bagging fish up for 5 hours straight) started benching the fish.. whoa what amazing fish.... sue got to hold a massive blue diamond in her hand whilst putting it in the tank. (Francis showed her how prior) and we finshed around half one... and then me mick and sue made sure the fish were ok until half 2 on friday morning.

on the friday morning ( half four i think it was Tony turned up with his fish.... and then later on in the day ivan and sally ( micks lady, extreamly nice lady!) joined up with us also.... so naturally we had a few in the bar..... hiccup :beer: :wine: :beer:

As Mick says a fosters top please..... not too much lemonade... im not gay!

Then i met Jeff cannons.... who picked up a few awards with his soild reds.......

then mr David Lai brought his fish for benching so many great fish on display!!!!!! its bonkers! :wub:

A huge congatualtions to Tony Vaughan for winning the United Kingdom Grand Championship for the 2nd year in a row with a wild discus. It just goes to show it is difficult to beat nature.

During Saturday the 10th of October 2009 andSunday the 11th October 2009 the Federation of British AquaticSocieties FBAS will host the UK Discus Show and Championships
The discus element of the Discus Show are as follows:

  • UK Discus Club Open Show 2009
  • UK Discus Club Supreme Winner
  • Outstanding Hobbiests Awards

During the show we you will be able to purchase:

Aselection of terrific discus. There will be a good range of small andlarge discus and they will be sold on a first come first served basis.
  • A range of discus specialist items and equipment
  • There will also be a supply of posters and discus shirts on offer.

Soif you are passionate about discus and love fishkeeping please come andjoin in the fun at the UK Discus Club Championships at Hayling Island.

The classes for the show will be as follows:

  • 1. Solid Red
  • 2. Solid Blue
  • 3. Spotted
  • 4. Striated
  • 5. Wild
  • 6. Open
Benchingof the fish begins on Thursday 8th October 2009 and all fish must bebenched no later than 3PM, Friday the 9th October 2009. If you wouldlike to bench your fish earlier in order to give them time to settlethat is certainly possible, please email your requast as soon aspossible to the show director as soon as possible.

Judging of the fish will take place on Friday evening and trophies will be awarded on Saturday.

Debenching will take place between 4-5PM on Sunday. Oxygen and bags will be supplied.

Any show fish that are purchased from the show tanks can be collected during de-benching.

All hobbiests entering the show will recieve a certificate.
