Had a ball at the show and met some new friends. This year I only took about seven pictures.
Hand was too shaky after all the drink.
No joking, with the dodgy knee and a belly full of Cider and Vodka I was like bowl of Jelly in an Earthquake.

We (Leinster Fish Keeping Society) did a tour of all the shops. The price of dry goods and fish was much cheaper than Dublin. Maybe next year I might drive over.

I will be judging and examining the judges in order to achieve a high degree of standardisation.

Tony Vaughan - Lead judge
Tony will be looking after the judges during the judging session.

Reserve Judge - Wild Class

We have a number of special guest judges from home and overseas - more on this shortly.

Our categories with the exception of wild discus will remain unchanged. In regards to the wilds, we will make a final decision once we know the number of total entries.

Following recent conversations and lots of hard work over the last 7 years, it gives me great pleasure to announce the United Kingdom Discus Judging Program is now complete.

Discus Judges Examination are based on a formal structure of training, observe ring, mentoring and examination.

At the end of each of the subsequent years individuals will undergo an examination and be entitled to the class of

1 year - Novice Judge
2 year - Judge
3 year - Senior Judge
4 year - United Kingdom Lead Judge
5 year - International Judge

To start on this path judges must attend a live induction, they will then follow a series of training sessions online and attend real training sessions. The live training sessions will be at a sensible time and location to suit the majority.

People wishing to attend the induction session are welcome and it is open to all UK Discus Club members who are in good standing and affiliate members.

You may want to attend just to learn more about what a good fish should look like.

Or you may want to attend because you want to embark upon the full judging pathway and help out at our shows.

The choice is up to you.

The induction session will start at 6PM on Saturday the 11th October 2008 and will be held at Mill Rythe Holiday Village, 16 Havant Road, Hayling Island, Hampshire, PO11 0PB

The cost for the induction session is £25.00 and includes printed material and a one off special edition judges shirt which I KNOW will become a highly prized collectors item. There will also be a fun certification examination and those that successfully pass will be awarded certification.

Numbers are limited, all funds and donations go to the UK Discus Club and will help support future shows, education and charitable organisations.

Our invitation from the United Kingdom Discus Association (UKDA)

I have the pleasure to invite you to the United Kingdom's 4th UK Discus Association Championships to be held at the Festival of Fishkeeping on the Saturday & Sunday, 11-12th October 2008.

The UK Discus Association Championships are a non-profit event organised by hobbyists for the discus loving community.

Each year it has been sponsored by: the Federation of British Aquarists Societies (FBAS), TETRA & RO-MAN - this year is no exception. In addition the show will be covered by Practical Fishkeeping Magazine, the largest specialist magazine in the UK.

The location and accommodation

The show will be held at Hayling Island, Hampshire, PO11 0PB and the closest towns, cities include: Portsmouth, Chichester, Havant; the closet airports are: Southampton, Heathrow or Gatwick.

Accommodation for the show is provided and managed by the Federation of British Aquarist Societies and the price and details can be found: HERE!!!!

Those that pay for accommodation via the link above get free tank entry and free entry into the show.

Entrants & Stands
Hobbyist, Professional, and Club entries are welcome and provisional enquiry may be made HERE!!!!!

Trade stands are available for professionals and display areas are available for fish clubs - please contact me directly if you are interested.

Initial Classes

Pre-entry classes include:

1 - Solid Red, Brown, Yellow
for example: including Brown, Yellow - includes Marlborough, Melon & San Merah, Golden, Red Rose etc.

2 – Solid Blue, Green
for example: including Blue Diamond, Cobalt, Ocean Green, Angel Blue, Super Angel Diamond, Violet Reflection etc.

3 - Spotted
for example: includes any colour with a spot, Leopards, Red Spotted Greens, Red Spotted Snakeskins etc.

4 – Stripe, Striated
for example: includes SnakeSkin any colour and no spots, pigeon blood all varieties, Turquoise – includes, Blue, Red & Chequered etc.

5 – Wild
for example: includes Wild Brown, Blue, Heckels etc.

6 - Open: includes any colour variety not listed in classes 2 to 5

Final classes will be dependent on the number and type of fish to be entered and advice will be given by the leader the Chair of the judging committee.
